Associate Pastor: Tom Davis |
Tom Davis, our Associate Pastor/Children's Minister, and Peggy, his wife, joined the First Baptist Church in Carnegie in 1992. Tom was licensed to preach the gospel on April 8, 1990, at the First Baptist Church in Marlow, Oklahoma. At that time, Tom had been called to be the pastor at Cox City Baptist Church near Rush Springs, Oklahoma. On June 17, 1990, the First Baptist Church of Marlow ordained Tom to the gospel ministry. Tom Davis was on the cradle roll soon after he was born in Carnegie on November 6, 1950. Venson Davis, his father, and Caroline Davis Stenger, his mother, were already members. |
In 1959, Tom Davis was saved and baptized. As a child growing up in this church, he was active in Royal Ambassadors, Youth Choir and Vacation Bible School. In high school he played the piano for Mrs. May Anderson's four-year-old Sunday School class. It was at this time under the close direction of his mother and Mrs. Anderson he began to work with children. After graduating from Carnegie High School in 1969, Tom attended college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and earned a degree in Elementary Education. While attending college he met Peggy Brankel. They were married on March 10, 1972. For the next few years Tom and Peggy lived and worked in Enid, Oklahoma. Tom taught sixth and second grades in the Enid Public Schools. Peggy finished her medical technologist internship and started working at Bass Baptist Hospital's laboratory. While in Enid, their first son Shaun became a part of their family. It was not long after Shaun's birth the family moved to Lawton for a few years. While in Lawton, Tom continued to teach and Peggy to work in the medical profession. They were members of the First Baptist Church in Lawton. In 1980 they moved to Marlow. They joined the First Baptist Church of Marlow and were active in the children's ministry as teachers, Vacation Bible School workers/directors and cooks/sponsors for Children's Falls Creek. While living in Marlow, their second son, Shane, was born in 1982. In 1992, Tom and Peggy moved to Carnegie. In 1997 the First Baptist Church of Carnegie called Tom to be the Associate Pastor and Children's Minister. While serving here, Tom has cooked at Falls Creek, sponsored Children's Falls Creek, served as the VBS director, filled in where needed, and has also written Sunday School materials and extended care lessons for Lifeway Resources, Nashville, Tennessee. Tom and Peggy can be found in the Family Life Center's kitchen, preparing food with the help of other caring church members during most church-wide fellowships. |
